Loose lead walking without gadgets

Every gadget promises to stop pulling. Most just make pulling slightly less comfortable. The pulling comes back because the reason for it never changed: everything your dog wants is out in front, and nothing much is happening next to you.

Change the maths

Your dog pulls because ahead pays and beside you does not. So flip it:

• Pay position, constantly at first. Every step your dog takes at your side gets marked and rewarded. You will feel like a vending machine for a week. That is the plan.
• Stop paying forward motion into a tight lead. When the lead tightens, stop. No shouting, no yanking. The walk simply pauses until the lead is loose again.
• Start where it is easy. The hallway, then the garden, then a quiet street. If your dog cannot walk nicely in the kitchen, the high street is not a fair test yet.

Short and frequent wins

Two minutes of focused lead work before the actual walk does more than trying to train the whole outing. Train first, then walk. Over a couple of weeks the trained bit and the walk merge into one.
